RCA's transistorized version of their Strato World shortwave portable radio. This model, along with the Zenith Royal 1000 and Philco T-9 Trans World were Consumer Reports' top picks in 1960. Not a very common set--cabinet is flimsier than most, and I suspect they didn't take wear and tear. In fact, this radio is the product of two parts radios. Nine socketed transistors mounted on a hand-wired metal chassis. I recently had to re-string the dial--if any of you know the difficulty it is when working with the Strato World series, you'll understand the frustration that's involved. There are THREE strings you need to make--short one, long one and a small lanyard with which the pointer "floats" on. Each one has to measured correctly or the whole assembly doesn't work! Took me a couple of hours, but it's done, and the tuning is as smooth as silk. Runs on nine D cells.
